English Courses
A practical asset for work and integration in Montréal

Essentials
English courses offered by the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), in collaboration with Accueil aux immigrants de l’Est de Montréal (AIEM), are for immigrant participants who have completed their French-language training pathway and want to strengthen their opportunities on Montréal’s job market in a bilingual context. Seats are limited, and eligibility depends on immigration status.

Why learn English after French-language training
In Québec, French is essential for integration. In Montréal, English can also be a valuable advantage in many professional sectors and workplaces.
English courses offered by the English Montreal School Board, with AIEM’s support, are for people who have already completed their French-language training pathway and want to strengthen language skills useful for the job market, better understand bilingual work environments, expand job-market opportunities in Montréal, and consolidate an integration path that is already well underway.
These courses do not replace French-language training. They are a natural next step.
An accessible, well-supported course
Compared to many costly private options, these courses offer a structured program recognized by a school board, clear institutional oversight, a very affordable cost, and guidance that fits an integration pathway.
AIEM acts as an information and guidance point to make sure this course truly matches your situation.
A recognized institutional partnership
Courses are delivered by the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), a public organization recognized for adult education.
AIEM supports interested participants by confirming eligibility, explaining how the courses work, and guiding them toward available cohorts.
Is this course a good fit for you
This course is recommended if you have completed at least one French-language training session in Québec and ideally your full French-language training pathway, if you want to improve your job-market opportunities in Montréal, if you are comfortable learning in a structured setting, and if you are looking for an affordable, recognized option.
If your French-language training is not yet completed, AIEM can first guide you toward the appropriate French-language training services.
