A School–Family–Community Agent acts as a resource person between the family, the school, and the community. Their role is to facilitate communication, support parents in understanding Québec’s school system, and foster a collaborative environment focused on the child.

Who is this service for ?

The service is intended primarily for immigrant families and parents of school-aged children, whether newly arrived or already established. It can also support families experiencing communication challenges with schools and those who wish to better understand expectations and school processes.

Role of School–Family–Community Agents

Present in schools within the CSSPI territory, SFCA agents support parents in their exchanges with schools, explain how the Québec school system works, and, when needed, can accompany families to certain school meetings. They promote mutual understanding between parents and school environments and contribute to children’s educational success and well-being.

Concrete support for parents, students, and schools

The service helps parents better understand their rights and responsibilities toward schools, feel more confident communicating with school staff, and be better equipped to support their children’s educational journey. It helps reduce cultural or communication misunderstandings that can complicate school–family relationships. Agents also provide referrals to local community organizations for services such as food assistance. Ultimately, the service supports children’s successful integration into their new environment.

Connection with other family services

SFCA agents work in complementarity with AIEM’s family services, parenting support activities, and community-based interventions. This approach ensures comprehensive and coherent support for families.

Language of service

The service is offered primarily in French. Depending on the family’s situation, adaptations may be considered to facilitate communication and ensure parents clearly understand information related to their child’s schooling.
