Key information

AIEM offers welcome services, information, and basic support to people seeking asylum. This helps you understand your situation, complete some essential steps, and be referred to the right resources. Services are free and offered within a specific framework. When your status changes, support can continue through other integration services.

A respectful welcome and first orientation

Making an asylum claim in Canada is an important step and often comes with many questions and complex procedures.

At Accueil aux immigrants de l’Est de Montréal (AIEM), we offer people seeking asylum a space for welcome, listening, and orientation, with respect for their situation and personal journey.

Our role is to help you clarify your priority needs and guide you toward appropriate resources, within AIEM or with partner organizations.

Services offered to people seeking asylum

Depending on your situation and service availability, AIEM may offer:

  • Welcome, general information, and orientation
  • Individual orientation meetings
  • Personalized information on some essential procedures
  • Support related to housing search and understanding tenant responsibilities
  • Basic information and support related to work permits
  • Referrals to community, institutional, or specialized resources
  • Access to volunteering at AIEM as a way to support social integration, build connections, and gain Quebec experience

A clear and transparent service framework

Services for people seeking asylum are offered within a specific framework, different from regular integration services funded by certain government programs.

This means that some activities offered to other groups are not accessible at this stage.

The AIEM team takes time to clearly explain what is available now and what may become available later, depending on how your status changes.
